Senate agrees 77–22 to proceed to Protect College Sports Act for floor debate
✓ Confirmed
On Thursday, Sept. 17, the U.S. Senate agreed to the motion to proceed to the Protect College Sports Act (S. 4668) by a 77–22 vote (one not voting), placing the bipartisan NIL, revenue-share, transfer, and eligibility package on the floor for debate after Tuesday’s 74–24 cloture. Sponsors Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell said final passage could come as soon as next week; the House is not expected to take up the bill until after the midterms. Opponents include several Senate Democrats and the NAACP, who argue the measure weakens athlete bargaining protections.
