UNC Board of Trustees approves $9M athletics quasi-endowment withdrawal

UNC-Chapel Hill’s Board of Trustees approved a $9 million withdrawal from Athletics’ quasi-endowment for FY27 operations after Vice Chancellor Nate Knuffman presented the request during the board’s September meeting, The Daily Tar Heel reported. The Budget, Finance and Infrastructure Committee had cleared the item Wednesday; full board action followed in the Thursday session. The fund grew from an $8 million Nike apparel advance (prepaid for 2026–28) to about $14.2 million as of June, and athletics has used reserves to cover recent operating shortfalls.
