UNC DC Steve Belichick resigns after school closes football program investigation
North Carolina announced Thursday that defensive coordinator Steve Belichick has resigned as the school concluded an independent investigation into culture and climate in the football program. Belichick, on medical leave since Aug. 6, will leave effective Oct. 27 when that leave ends. UNC said the probe found “certain actions demonstrated a disregard for Carolina’s values and standards of conduct,” but that those actions were “isolated in scope and not a systemic failure,” with corrective steps now underway. Former GM Michael Lombardi resigned Sept. 3 amid the same broader inquiry. Bill Belichick’s staff has been handling the defense collectively while UNC sits 2-0.
